Jarell Lane, a 5-foot-11 combo guard from St. Patrick in New Jersey, is now off the board. Lane, a part of the class of 2011, has committed to the University of Maryland Baltimore County, otherwise known as UMBC. “I committed to UMBC,” said an excited Lane. “I committed there because it’s a very good academic school. When I went on my unofficial visit, I really felt comfortable with Coach Monroe and his staff.”

The Garden State prospect went on to say, “the team made me feel right at home. I also met with the president of the school and we spoke about life issues.” That, among the many other reasons, “inspired” Lane to speak to his family about making a pledge. Jarell decided to inform the school that he would commit on July 22nd and did not unveil the news until now.

Ironically, Lane’s old high school teammate, Chase Plummer, is an incoming freshman on the UMBC team. “I’m really excited about it,” Plummer said. “Jarell is a great point guard and he is an excellent pick up for UMBC.” The two are friends and it’s a huge pickup for the Baltimore school.

As a rising senior, Jarell looks to play a huge leadership role as his squad is a lot younger this season. The talented combo guard will be joined by Michael Gilchrist, Derrick Gordon and others as they look to take on the tough challenges of NJ hoops this year.
